Montclair Friends and Neighbors,
During the past 57 years of my life, I have been a resident, employee of the City of Montclair, Public Works Department and currently a Commissioner of the Montclair Planning Commission as of 2023. Before recently retiring as the Public Works Superintendent in 2021, I had the privilege to serve this community for 29 years as a member of the City of Montclair, Public Works Department. I am proud of my dedicated service to the residents, community, and businesses of Montclair, and have always kept their best interests at heart. As the Public Works Superintendent, I oversaw multiple Public Works divisions focusing on the maintenance and beautification of our city. As a member of the Planning Commission I am using my institutional knowledge and experience to assist the City in making the best decisions for the City Council to approve as we are an advisory committee to the Council.
I am confident my 29 years of managerial experience and institutional knowledge gained while working with the City of Montclair and being a Planning Commissioner, will be an asset as a City Council member. I am also working part-time as a Senior Inspector for a large Engineering Firm that keeps my development knowledge up to speed. As a manager, I worked hand in hand with other city departments to accomplish the goals and objectives of the city. The lasting relationships I built with the members of these departments will be beneficial in restoring our great city. As the Superintendent I was responsible for the operations budget of the Public Works Department and was always a stickler for getting the most bang for our buck. As you work hard for your money, I assure you I will work just as hard to safeguard your tax dollars.
I believe in pride of ownership and that hard work is key to maintaining the infrastructure of this small but mighty city. Growing up here, attending the local schools, and working for the City has given me a set of unique qualifications. Working at the City in multiple positions has made me a well-rounded person who can identify with all groups of the community including residents, shoppers, business owners, and City staff. I understand the needs of the people and am willing to listen and help address your concerns.
What are some of my objectives and what is important to me? Like any resident, homeowner, or business owner I am always concerned about our investments. I want to make sure this city continues to run smoothly and that the quality of life in Montclair continues to improve. Measure L was voted in to help preserve all of this by keeping Public Safety a top priority and investing in its staff and infrastructure. Tax revenue is very important to maintaining any city so having developments that fall in line with the community's desires is vital to the City and its future. We also have the Utility Tax to help support the infrastructure and safety programs in place.
I am not the only choice for City Council, but I know you will not find someone that genuinely cares about this city’s residents, business owners, and the community more than I do. Please help me to maintain the quality of living in Montclair we all deserve.
A successful campaign is dependent on wide support from within the community and from individuals and entities outside the community that share the vision to do what is in the best interest of the city to move it forward. I continue to believe I am that person.
I respectfully ask for your support in this endeavor!
Sincerely and God Bless,
Xavier Mendez
